Start by finding your business

Where to use your review link and QR code

Google's own suggestions are to include the link on receipts and in thank-you emails, add it at the end of a chat conversation, and print the QR code in your store. It also suggests sending review requests by email, WhatsApp message or Facebook post (Google).

Text after the visit

The link in a short text, an hour or two after the appointment or job.

Thank-you email

One clear button to your review form, the day of the visit.

Receipts and invoices

The QR code in the footer: "Tell us how we did. Scan to review us on Google."

Counter, table or waiting area

A small sign where people wait, so they can scan it later.

Business cards and packing slips

Useful for service businesses and online orders.

Website and email signature

"Worked with us recently? Leave us a Google review."

It's worth the effort. In BrightLocal's 2026 survey of US consumers, 78% were asked for a review in the past year, and 28% say they always write one when asked. Google was the most common place to write one: 45% of consumers left a Google review in the past year (BrightLocal).

The rules for asking

Use the same link and wording for every customer

Google's policy forbids merchants to "selectively solicit positive reviews from customers." No "Happy with us? Scan here" signs.

Ask for an honest review, not five stars

Google only allows asking "without offering incentives to do so or attempting to influence the rating or the contents of the review."

No rewards

No discounts, freebies or prize draws for scanning and reviewing. Google treats incentivized reviews as fake engagement.

No pressure on the premises

Google says merchants shouldn't require or pressure customers to leave reviews while on the premises. A QR code they can scan later is fine.

Not for Yelp

Yelp asks businesses not to request reviews at all.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Google review link?

+
It is a link that opens the review form for your business on Google, so customers can choose a star rating and write a review without searching for you first. This tool builds it from your Google Place ID.

How do I get my Google review link from Google?

+
Sign in to your Google Business Profile, select Read reviews, then Get more reviews, and copy the link. That screen also gives you a QR code, which Google says can only be created on a computer browser. This tool is an alternative if you are not the profile owner or are on your phone.

Does a Google review link expire?

+
The link itself does not expire, but it is built from your Place ID, and Google says Place IDs may change over time and recommends refreshing them if they are more than 12 months old. Test your link and QR code once a year, and after any big change to your Business Profile.

Where should I use my review link and QR code?

+
Google suggests receipts, thank-you emails, the end of a chat conversation and a printed QR code in your store. It also suggests sending review requests by email, WhatsApp message or Facebook post. Texts sent right after a visit work well too.

What size should I print the QR code?

+
Large enough to scan from where customers will be standing or sitting. Before printing a batch, print one at the size you plan to use and scan it with a couple of different phones from that distance. Keep a clear white border around the code.

Can I offer a discount to people who scan the code and leave a review?

+
No. Google bans offering incentives such as discounts, free items or prize draws for reviews, even when the reviews are honest. Use the same QR code and wording for every customer, and do not ask for a specific star rating.

Send your review link to every customer, automatically

Spokk sends a short feedback request by text or email after every visit, then gives every customer the same invitation to review you on Google.
